Lapping Nurburgring Behind the Performance Wheel of the Upcoming 2017 Honda Civic Type R

Recent April 3, 2017 Honda video footage wowed us here at Poway Honda, showing that the 12.9-mile Nordschleife, or north loop, of the German Nurburgring motorsports complex proved no match for the soon-to-release 2017 Honda Civic Type R. The sedan easily took the circuit record time of 7 minutes, 43.8 seconds. And this nearly-7-second improvement on the previous European Civic Type R – nearly 3 seconds faster than the previous front-wheel drive holder -- came thanks to a winning balance of lift and drag as well as the prowess of a 2.0-liter VTEC® TURBO engine made right here in the States: Ohio, to be sure.

And this stalwart performer should see its first American release in late spring, 2017. Needless to say, we can't wait. 2017 Civic Type R promises not only an excellent peak output of 306 horsepower and the ability to dish up to 295 pound-feet of torque. It'll also play host to a 6-speed manual transmission replete with lower, acceleration-friendly gear ratios as well as a torsionally rigid body with wider track and tires, a longer wheelbase, multi-link rear suspension and a comprehensive aerodynamic package for reliable stability and precision cornering at high speeds.

So what'll this mean for drivers looking to peel out around San Diego, Escondido, El Cajon and nearby? A drive story only time can tell. Until 2017 Honda Civic Type R releases, we can but dream.

However, that doesn't mean you're limited. Feel free to stop by our 13747 Poway Road showroom here at Poway Honda, and you can get a feel for what it's like in the driver's seat of a 2017 Honda Civic coupe, hatchback or sedan. We offer a gamut of trims from which to choose, from base EX, to EX-L, EX-T, LX, LX-P, and line-apex Sport Touring and Touring.
